Introduction

Tick-Borne Disease Working Group UK/IRL

The TBDWG-UK/IRL was established on the 15th of June 2022 to improve tick-borne disease diagnosis, treatment, awareness, and patient experience through supporting, developing, and promoting a tick-borne disease collaborative multi-professional network.

Membership of the TBDWG-UK/IRL is one of the ways to get involved in improving the aspects mentioned above. By sharing experience and expertise, the TBDWG-UK/IRL can help identify areas of good practice and areas of concern.

Broad Purpose of the TBDWG-UK/IRL

The TBDWG-UK/IRL is a group of service users and professionals specialising in tick-borne diseases. Members include service users, researchers, nurse consultants, medical doctors, professors and functional practitioners (this list is not exhaustive)

  • The TBDWG-UK/IRL was established to develop a strategy and work plan which will include areas of good practice, gaps in current detection, diagnosis, surveillance and treatment of Tick-Borne Diseases (TBD).There are many people who cannot access timely and rigorous diagnosis or treatment; Key objective of group is to focus on this cohort of patients with an objective of reducing health inequalities and developing quality standards across the patient pathway in the U.K and Ireland.

  • To establish a Patient Experience Involvement Group to lead on improving patient experience and facilitating the patient voice in developing services and service improvement.

  • To evaluate patient experience and use this to guide service development and improvements.

  • Explore opportunities and funding for U.K and Ireland research opportunities at home and Internationally.

  • Develop a research strategy which supports existing research, and with patient engagement and involvement, identifies priorities and opportunities for research

  • Provide learning and training opportunities to members with the aim of promoting CPD accredited education and to facilitate education for the wider community.
